Welcome to the Club

The Club has built up excellent facilities, and has recently completed a development to expand and resurface its courts, and build a new enlarged clubhouse.

The club has step free access to all of its facilities, which include:

  • 4 floodlit artificial clay courts
  • 4 floodlit porous macadam
  • 2 mini tennis courts with a practice wall with one court covered for all year round use
  • a modern clubhouse with comfortable lounge, kitchen, bar, accessible WC, changing area and store

The club has a partnership with Sherborne Boys School, who use the club’s courts during the summer term, and who allow the club to use their 3 excellent quality grass courts during July and August after the school breaks up.

The club is situated within the Sherborne Town Council’s green and spacious Terrace Playing Fields, just outside the town. The playing fields also host Sherborne’s Rugby, Football and Cricket Clubs, and there is a large free car park which serves all four clubs.

The club has a proud record of fielding multiple teams in the local Yeovil and District league, the Dorset League, and the AEGON National League. There are age-group teams for minis and juniors, and veterans (45+ and 60+). See leagues and tournaments for details.

The club has an annual club championship – singles, doubles and mixed. The first cups for the Sherborne Championship were awarded way back in 1928.

The club is a friendly one, without any of the old fashioned ‘playing in’ requirements, or restrictive clothing rules. The only restriction is that proper tennis shoes have to be worn, so as to not damage the courts.

Sherborne Tennis Club is a not-for-profit Community Amateur Sport Club, run by its volunteer Club management team elected by the membership each year. The club is affiliated to the LTA and has achieved the Club Mark plus accreditation for the management of the club.

The club exists to promote the game of tennis in the Sherborne area by encouraging active participation in the game across the whole age range, and spectrum of playing expertise. The club operates under formal rules.
